It’s important to know the community gardens, natural farmers, organic markets in your area! I feel as though I’ve lost touch with stores like Wegmans, Whole Foods, Trader Joes and others within a short drive away. Yet local farmers and local gardens are a vital part of community and should be on your phone list and knowledge base. So here I start, the search for local farmers, community gardeners, and markets run by us for us – of the organic, natural lifestyle persuasion. Organic sauce 😉 + Love ❤
The Cottage City Community Garden – Maryland
via About the Garden
The Cottage City Community Garden was the first community garden to be established in the Port Towns area. Since 2010, the Cottage City Community Garden has served as a gathering place providing good, local, organic food for the community and a friendly place where we gather to learn the art of gardening from one another. Not only have we maintained and expanded the Cottage City Community Garden, but in March of 2013, many Cottage City Gardeners helped to construct raised garden beds in the establishment of the Colmar Manor Community Garden. Volunteers from both towns worked to build the Colmar Manor Community Garden in just one day.
Recipes We Love: Grilled Plums with Frozen Yogurt & Agave
Late Summer is the perfect season for getting more fruit into your meal – and when you’re already outside cooking, it doesn’t get much easier than adding some to the grill.
Stone fruits are great for grilling because their thicker skin and flesh can hold up to heat well.
For a quick summer dessert try grilled plums with vanilla frozen yogurt (or ice cream) and a drizzle of agave syrup.
Can also use peaches, nectarines or apricots for the plums.
*Fresh plums, 1 per person
*Canola or vegetable oil, for grilling
*Pint of frozen yogurt – we went with vanilla bean or ice cream
*Drizzle of agave syrup
Heat your grill, keeping the temperature at a medium-high level. Brush grill grate and plums with oil. Cook face down until warm throughout and flesh has grill marks, about 3-5 minutes.
Add to a bowl with 1-2 scoops of frozen yogurt or ice cream.
Drizzle agave syrup over plums and ice cream, and garnish with fresh mint.
